Ambersail YC is Corinthian Yacht Club who masterminded and organized the Promo -PR circumnavigation to commemorate the Millennium of Lithuania celebrated in 2009. S/y Ambersail (Mk 3 Vo60, former Assa Abloy1) was purchased and prepared for this purpose. You can find the complete story in www.1000odiseja.lt .

After the “Odyssey” the boat still seemed to be in a good shape to become a platform for the offshore racing campaign. The gall of the campaign is gather more big boat racing experience, train & test the young and able Lithuanian sailors who should be able to take part in the races like Volvo Ocean Race in the future.

In 2010 we’ve done the Pantaenius Rund Skagen, Eurocard Gotland Runt, Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland and Rolex Middle Sea Race. The best result so far - the class winner and 2nd place overall in SRBI.

The core program for 2011 is Atlantic Ocean Racing Series. We have participated in RORC Caribbean 600 already (5th in class, 10th overall). The next challenge is Transatlantic Race, afterwards we intend to proceed to Fastnet, Biscay and Middle Sea Race. For the season finale we are looking to be in Volvo Legends - we are former Assa Abloy anyhow.

Skipper Simonas Steponavicius (45). Sailing since the age of 7, beginning on the Optimist, gone thru most of the Olympic classes, and keen offshore racing sailor for 20+ years. Quite a few national titles and podium finishes, best result so far -1st in class, 2nd overall SRBI, 2010. 20000+ nautical miles on Ambersail including Southern Ocean and Cape Horn.

We have a crew- pool of 50-60 amateur sailors who have done thousands of miles on this boat and have the racing background.

The Ambersail crew for Transatlantic are mostly the Corinthian sailors, though most of them have been racing since their childhood. Most of the guys are the Lithuanian squad on all classes of dingies in 1980-2000, most successful of all is helmsman and tactician Mr. Raimondas Šiugzdinis, who took part in Barcelona Olympics in 1992 on 470, afterwards he was actively racing the Laser to become the World Champion in Laser R in 1997.

Nowadays most of us are racing the National one design RS-280 on a regular basis, so our racing skills are not completely rusted. We are very much looking forward to compare against the much respected competitors on such a challenging course as Transatlantic Race is expected to be.
